Top Native Food Sovereignty Grants: July–December 2026

Philanthropy sends less than half a percent of its dollars to Native causes, and federal grants pile on match requirements that rural Native organizations can’t front. So this list applies a filter the funders should have applied themselves: of the eight verified opportunities below, seven require no match. The exception is flagged.

One more pattern to plan around: August is the pile-up month. Four deadlines land between August 1 and September 15. If you’re driving two hours to reliable internet, batch your portal sessions now.

The August cluster

Clif Family Foundation — August 1, 2026. $5,000–$50,000, one year, for organizations under $8M. Their healthy-food-access priority names “culturally appropriate” food systems — traditional-seed farming and a wool-and-food cooperative fit as written. No match. Apply.

Seventh Generation Fund — Spiral Braid Language Initiative — August 7, 2026. For Indigenous-led organizations in the Southwest (NM, AZ, CO, UT, NV, CA, TX), funding traditional foodways, cultural knowledge sharing and community healing. Elder-youth cooking apprenticeships and seed traditions land squarely here. Amount varies. No match. Apply.

ANA EAGLE program — August 7, 2026 (forecasted). The Administration for Native Americans’ new economic advancement program (successor to SEDS): $300,000–$1M over three years, with program areas including community greenhouses and elder knowledge programs. This is the one with a match requirement — non-federal cost sharing applies, so weigh it honestly. Confirm the final notice on Grants.gov. Opportunity.

Colorado Plateau Foundation — cycle opens August 2026. Capacity-building grants of $1,000–$25,000 for Native majority-led organizations on the Colorado Plateau, including the Navajo Nation, with Community Foodways as a named priority (current grantees include a Diné farmers alliance). Rapid-response grants up to $10,000 roll year-round. No match. Grants.

McCune Charitable Foundation — window August 15 to September 15, 2026. New Mexico’s major statewide funder, open to 501(c)(3)s and federally recognized tribes directly, with food, agriculture and Native communities among its priorities. No match. Apply.

W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Always-open letters of inquiry, responses within 30 business days — and New Mexico is one of WKKF’s four generational-commitment places, with equitable food systems a core focus. For an organization at the $250K–$750K scale, this is the most important always-open door in the country. No match. Grantseekers.

Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) charitable giving. One of the largest tribal philanthropies — over $400 million given — with an open portal for tribal governments, Native organizations and Native schools. One request per fiscal year; the tribe has funded Native agriculture at national scale (Seeds of Native Health). No match. Grant portal.

Watch for the reopening

NDN Collective Community Self-Determination Grant — expected to reopen in 2026. $200,000 a year, up to two years, unrestricted-style support for Indigenous-led organizations, with food sovereignty and regenerative land work as named focus areas. The largest Native-led general-support grant available at this scale. Watch their page. No match. Details.

Eighteen dropped — including some good ones

First Nations Development Institute has no open RFPs right now (their food sovereignty round closed in March — a strong 2027 target). Native American Agriculture Fund closed May 1. Native Voices Rising closed July 3. The Christensen Fund and Thornburg are invitation-only. Verified so your portal time goes to live opportunities only.
