New Horizons for Seniors Program (Community-Based Projects) — closes July 14, 2026, 3:00 p.m. EDT. The federal flagship, and this year the maximum doubled to $50,000 per project (up to $25,000 of that for capital). The ones you probably don’t know
Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Community Grants — closes noon, August 13, 2026. Up to $25,000 per project. Here’s the reframe: loneliness and isolation among low-income seniors is a community mental-health issue, and this funder agrees. Simple provincial application. Grant programs.
Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation runs two windows this fall for charities supporting family caregivers. The National Grants (up to $300,000) close August 14; the Local Grants ($7,500, light application) run September 4 to October 16. Community Foundation of Nova Scotia VISIONS Fund — reopens September 2026. Up to $40,000, multi-year requests accepted up to three years. It targets underserved communities in health, food insecurity and housing — food-insecure, rural, low-income seniors are exactly who they mean. Nova Scotia Age-Friendly Communities Grant — expect the next intake fall 2026. The province’s purpose-built seniors grant: up to $10,000 for projects ($20,000 for large-scale), up to $25,000 for planning. J & W Murphy Foundation — open year-round. A Halifax family foundation focused on Atlantic Canada that accepts applications any time through a simple online portal. If you’ve never asked a foundation for money before, this is a gentle first ask. Apply.
